Happy until dead pixels showed up out of warranty

BiOsLaSh 11/19/2024

After a lot of research and going back and forth I landed on ths projector and was happy until a couple of months ago. Ive had the projector for a little over 3 years and got a couple of dead pixels a couple of months ago. They are white and almost dead center in the image. I havent looked into replacement parts yet but 3 years of use for a $3000 projector doesnt seem right.

Awesome until it isnt.

mlopes010 11/16/2024

The projector is amazing out of the box. Purchased from LG directly. Great color and brightness. I have a dedicated home theater and this has been the center piece with very positive comments. Now the only comments are from friends and family regarding the dead pixels. Why are there white dots everywhere? Doesnt LG stand behind their products? I want to be an LG long term customer but $3000+ is too much to be considered throw away.

Great Projector While it Lasted

cyborlinker 10/20/2024

Really enjoyed the projector which has had very good picture quality. However now the projector has dead pixels which show up as little bright dots of light. This is very disappointing as my warranty is apparently expired. Although I thought this projector would last for at least 5 years it has not so will need to buy something else.

Nice until the dead pixels started

dennisYVR 10/12/2024

Super frustrating that a low hour usage product that is 2 years old out of warranty starts showing up with dead pixels... the distraction of the dead pixels makes the video unwatchable. No repair options as far as I can tell. Head to avsforum and search for Official LG CineBeam HU810PW/AU810PB Projector Owners Thread if you want to learn more. LG should be embarrassed by the quality of this product and the lack of reasonable service options repair costs are more than a new unit

Not built to last

jonfitz 9/21/2024

Overall the image looks great except for the sparkle with red colors. My main problem is... it wasnt built to last at all. Within a year pixels started to die so I sent it back in to get fixed. Now its glitching and cutting to black randomly. Ive only owned it 3 years and its crapping out. Ive had tvs for nearly a decade and this thing has been a problem since I got it.

Dead pixel in 3 years

NAP16 9/7/2024

Dead pixel very visible and annoying after 3 years of use. Bought from LG directly when it was released and have no viable option to repair. $3k down the drain for 3 years worth of watching. Wanted laser to save on bulb replacement cost over the years and ended up buying the most expensive bulb as I have to replace the whole projector now.

Great TV. Dead Pixels.

PaulSea 7/21/2024

This was the second projector Ive used from LG first was a PF1500. I like the unit a lot. Just like with the PF1500 at less than a year the unit began displaying a dead pixel. Im rather tired of LG projectors that last less than a year. I wish there was a viable solution and an actual guarantee of quality.

very disappointing

Kevin Car 5/30/2024

I purchased this projector new. Right around the one year mark I developed a dead pixel. I was about 1 week beyond the 1 year warranty when I contacted customer support and I was told it would be a 800 dollar repair and I would be without the projector for 1-2 months. Even though I was only days outside the warranty period there was no help whatsoever.I also discovered that this was a very common problem and they could not confirm that there was any solution or provide any reassurance that this would not happen again a year later. Needless to say I did not move forward with the repair. Now the projector is full of dead pixels. Essentially this was a complete waste of $3000. This has been very disappointing especially considering this was the largest electronics purchase I have ever made.

Disappointing Product and Worse LG Support

robbiekr 4/11/2024

I was so excited to buy this when it first released. A 4k laser projector that was bright and wouldnt break the bank for my home theater setup and big-screen gaming. Unfortunately actual ownership has been less than stellar. Unboxing and setup were straightforward. I intended to use WebOS and the LG apps to watch movies and shows but HBO was not available. Apparently the version of WebOS was not new enough to support it even though the product was brand new. The projector started showing issues approximately six months. It started with one frozen white pixel near the edge of the screen and in the months since there are now 10 frozen or stuck pixels. Also the projector randomly shuts off completely when in game mode. The worst part of this whole experience is LGs support. I have been on at least half a dozen calls with LG support to get these issues taken care of. They provide me contact information to an LG authorized support store in my area and none of them have been able to even take a look at the projector for a variety of reasons.. Some of the stores have closed or the LG-specific technician no longer works there or they dont service projectors or they dont answer the phone or they think they can take a look at it but they first need to hear back from an LG engineer to see if its a problem they can actually fix. I really regret this purchase and I hope this helps dissuade others from spending this much money $3000 for an experience like the one I have had.

Defective product line with high failure rate

theuberkevlar 1/25/2024

As many others have said look this model up on AVS forums regarding dead pixels this is a defective product line with dead pixels becoming an issue for many people after only about a year or so. My first one has appeared near the middle of the screen after just over 2 years and only about 2000 hours of usage. I will be voting with my dollar and taking my business elsewhere in the future if LG is unable to take responsibility for the faulty equipment they are selling. There should a better cooling system installed in this thing or something because dead pixels should not be appearing at this rate.

Dead Pixels in 2 years

MD100100 12/20/2023

Just over 3000 hours and I have 3 dead pixels that have popped up in the last few weeks. So many others are saying the same thing but LG wont make it right. As another reviewer said so much for 20000 hour light if the pixels die in 2 years or less.

Brightest and Best Quality Projector Ive ever had

mbryan718 11/28/2023

This projector has FAR exceeded my expectations in terms of picture quality brightness and frame rate. EVERY guest weve had at our home has been blown away by the brightness and quality. We are using it to the full 150 with a Silver Ticket HDR Projection screen. The remote that comes with it is like something from the future. The remote works similar to a Nintendo Wii remote. Its very accurate and easy to use with the built-in UI. Considering features picture quality/brightness this is the best projector Ive ever owned. Now for the bad side ... Unfortunately after the 3rd month of ownership we have encountered BURNT pixels every other month weve had it. Each month that goes by a new burnt pixel shows up. After 13 months we are now up to 9 BURNT PIXELS. We are currently working with LG support to get the projector repaired. Since we reached out to them a few days past the warranty expiration they honored the repair under the warranty. Once I get my projector back in perfect condition I will change my 3 stars to a 5 star rating.

Great projector with 1 major ding

Pope22192 10/5/2023

Im very happy with the projector with the exception of one thing but its big. You can not set the default Sound Out to Bluetooth so that when you fire up the projector it will automatically connect. I have a set of modern Klipsch bookshelf speakers The Fives and the only time I have to use the LG remote instead of just my Roku remote is when I power on the projector go to Sound/Bluetooth and then click the saved/registered speakers. Then I put away the LG remote and unless I need to update the Picture mode everything else can be controlled with my Roku remote. Having to take these extra steps every single time you want to watch TV is very annoying and inconvenient. I tested several projectors prior to purchasing the LG and none had this issue. I hang my projector from the ceiling and my Bluetooth speakers are in the front of my room. The room layout is such that it would take a lot of effort to run an HDMI cable from the speakers to the projector. And I simply dont want to do this because once connected via Bluetooth the sound is perfect. I called LG and spoke with an agent twice about 3 months apart. We went through every possible troubleshooting scenario. There is a feature within the Bluetooth setting to constantly seek devices with polling ranges described as Wide or Narrow and neither of those seem to apply to a fix. Ive reset the projector settings ensured that my speakers are dedicated to the Projector with no other connections or registered to any other devices to avoid potential conflict. In the end the agent recommended I called Klipsch but couldnt tell me if there was anything special about the Bluetooth protocol so I could relay the information to the speaker manufacturer. There is a note that says something to the effect of not all speakers may be compatible but no where is it documented nor could the agent tell me how I could get a list of compatible devices. The Bluetooth speakers remain in the profile as Registered so I literally have to go into Sound / Sound Out / Bluetooth and by default the radio button for my speakers is highlighted so I just hit enter on the remote. I wait 2-ish seconds and then I have to hit a button on the remote 2 more times to back out of Sound mode and then clear the Settings menu so that nothing is in the way of whatever program Im watching. All of these things could be avoided by allowing users to select Sound Out to default to Bluetooth and auto-select whatever device is registered. If there are multiple devices registered allow the user to choose a primary for auto-connect. This has been a huge pain. Its one more remote I have to keep laying around for the sole purpose of performing an action that should be automated. All of this could be fixed with an update but since this Projector was released I dont believe there has every been one. That is unusual for a device like this especially because its been out for several years. If there was a release it was so long ago that LG had time to bake it in to my unit because I have never seen one in the almost year Ive had mine. If using Bluetooth speakers in the way I have described is NOT an issue for you then heres a summary of my experience. - Holds up fairly well in sunlight. My projector screen is right in front of a large set of windows and my friends have commented that even with the curtains open the picture is still pretty decent. I feel like it does a better job in this department than many other projectors I tested in the same price range. - Picture is great Its all about the content though. Regular programming in standard definition will not blow your socks off however if you switch to something like a nature show delivered in 4K the picture is pretty amazing. - One thing about the bullet above that I feel is negative. With my ceiling projector its hard to calibrate the Focus and Zoom because they are both manual dials on the unit itself. I wish there was a better way because I had to calibrate while on a ladder and from the back of the room rather than being able to use the remote while sitting from the viewing area. Any needed tweaks required me to get back on the ladder and rinse and repeat. - I cant comment on the built in menu with applications because I dont use it. I have a Roku and Xbox connected to the LG projector so I have no need to use the built-in Apps option. - The unit itself is hefty and appears to be well built. - I use my projector about once a day and so far after 10 months I havent had any other issues other than the Bluetooth Sound-Out described earlier.

Great features missing a few

Hector253 7/27/2023

This is a great update to my 7-year-old BenQ DLP projector. The picture is amazing even in a semi-lit room. The color pop and the laser light source is incredible. The projector turns on within seconds. Here are a few minor setbacks. No trigger for the screen sometimes the HDR setting look washed-out no matter how many times I try to correct it. Overall a great upgrade for my home theatre.

Dead pixel after only 700 hours literally 1 month after the 1-year warranty expired. I would expect video issues after 15000-20000 hours. The picture is wonderful but I am extremely disappointed by this.

Great projector. Pros: great crisp picture silent operation quick power up and shutdown. Cons: heavy large smart tv-like interface not necessary since most people use standalone media players. Focus lever is stiff would prefer to change focus using remote.
